Hey there! I’m Alex River Clarke – an EMDR psychotherapst and hypnotherapist specialising in Parts therapy and Inner Child recovery and healing. I’m also a workshop and group facilitator including with Survivors of Bereavement by Suicide , Shropshire Domestic Abuse Service and I’ve trained with the brilliant Mita Mistry to deliver the psychoeducation “Hope2Recovery” Programme. In the past, I’ve facilitated with The National Autistic Society.
I also give talks on post trauma, inner child and post-domestic abuse recovery and I’m currently training as a trauma informed yoga teacher specialising in disability yoga and mindful movement for people in pain.
I offer bespoke hypnotherapy packages. You can choose from a package of 4 sessions or opt for a 2 hour solution focussed (single session) therapy wherein we discuss an inner conflict or challenge facing you and create a way forward by focussing on the future, building your inner resources and building an action plan where appropriate.
Locations
Online: I offer zoom sessions which means you can have therapy in your PJs from the comfort of your own living room!
In person: Sessions for children or teens 16 are held at Open Space Studios with care-givers present. Sessions for adults and older teens 16+ are held at The Oswestry Climate Action Hub or The Roy Fletcher Centre in Shrewsbury.
My Experience.
Over the past 20 years I’ve been a support worker with various organisations: Manchester Women’s Aid, Victim Support, Home Start, Cancer Aid, The Together Trust, and BlueSCI Trafford. I have a particular interest in trauma and working with adults who grew up in dysfunctional, abusive and/or alcoholic households.
My group facilitation started in my late 20’s when I co-facilitated a depression support group with Self Help Services in Manchester. After this, I founded and facilitated THE WOMEN’S PLAYGROUP – a free creative arts group for survivors of sexual violence (funded by Trafford Partnership and supported by BlueSCI, Trafford).
Currently, I run a free self esteem building course CENTERED for people recovering after abuse or bullying and MESSY MINDS – a free meditation for wellbeing group from Oswestry Library.
Training (modalities and approaches)
My work is approached from a Post-Jungian perspective. Currently, I am studying a Certificate in Jungian and Post Jungian Clinical Concepts with The Centre for Applied Jungian Studies and my hypnotheraputic work is underpinned by these concepts.
I completed my hypnotherapy diploma with Glynis Iveson and Dan Browne at Chrysalis Ltd. In addition, I studied Parts Therapy with the brilliant powerhouse Lorraine Gleeson author of How to Be A Hypnotherapist after experiencing the benefits of Parts Therapy first hand. I’ve found Parts Therapy very effective for clients who have unconscious inner conflict, self-defeating behaviours and/or identity issues arising from trauma or internalised societial pressure.
I have also studied Single Session Therapy with the magnificent Professor Windy Dryden and offer this service too. Very often I find one session is “sufficent and enough” as Dryden says, but you always have the chance to book more sessions should you wish to continue this future focussed therapy.
I studied EMDR psychotherapy for PTSD and psychological trauma with the London College of Clinical Communication and Hypnosis with tutor Bill Frost. I have also studied with Wale Oladipo on his excellent “Trauma, the brain and recovery” course and will soon undertake training with Holly Wincote on her Hypnotherapy for Trauma & PTSD course.
Currently, I’m studying towards my Level 5 Counselling Diploma. Previously, I trained in person-centred counselling with Pamela Campbell, Gail Jardin, and Julie Khan at Trafford College but found hypnotherapy to be my real passion as (I find) it goes deeper than conventional talking therapy yet still provides a place to offload and seek transformative insight.
